Wi-Fi at Saveetha Engineering College

Saveetha Engineering College, was started in the year 2001 by the Saveetha Medical & Educational Trust, is committed to develop this college into a renowned institution for Engineering education and research. The Saveetha Group of Institution is headed by Dr. N. M. Veeraiyan, a committed and dedicated Medical Professional.

The campus of Saveetha Engineering College is spread over a 120 acres of scenic beauty, facing Chembarambakkam lake on the Chennai- Bangalore National Highway (NH4). Located at about 8Km from Poonamalee township, the college buildings are laid out amidst a serene environment. The Circular Block has a built up area of 2,20, 000 sq feet, and houses Departments of CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, MBA & MCA, Administrative office, Library, Placement cell and Examination Cell. A seperate block with a built up area of 70,000 sq feet, houses the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Science & Humanities.

The college consists of a spacious canteen and well equipped laboratories with the state of the art computers equipment and gadgets. Separate rest rooms for boys and girls are provided in the college campus. The campus also houses well-ventilated hostels for boys and girls. In all, the students are provided with an atmosphere conducive to pursue their studies freely

Obeth, campus system administrator, researched a variety of wireless options before selecting Sesami. He wanted to provide students with wireless access via username/password, and to track and manage activity on every access point on the network. He needed a solution that was easy to implement, flexible, and cost-effective enough to deployed throughout the campus. Finally, because the network would be deployed in a densely populated area of Chennai, he needed to avoid interference from nearby Wi-Fi networks.

Obeth tried other wireless solutions, but found them hard to manage, expensive, and difficult to scale. They didn't work well with the firewalls installed at various campus locations. And there was no way to remotely upgrade network equipment.

Obeth has real-time visibility into the wireless network as a whole, and the operation of any access point. He can take immediate action if there is a network problem, wireless interference, or if someone is using too much bandwidth.

Wireless Point to multi Point connectivity

SANCO TRANS was incorporated in 1979 as a Private Limited Company and by this time the company has already established its niche in the market for the high quality of services in the Transport and Clearing & Forwarding sector.

Sancotrans needed to link up their main office with four more computer systems in separate buildings approximately 13km away across their main site. The connection was needed to share internet and business data between the buildings and the main office, and allow people in the far building to connect needed LAN on the spot without having to come all the way to the front office. It would also allow for connectivity of a security camera out at the far building entrance, with data being sent back to the main office for recording. Digging a trench and laying conduit would be too expensive, and the limitations on CAT5 cable length wouldn't allow it.

A wireless solution was needed to bridge the distance. Sesami came out and performed a wireless site survey, determined the equipment needed to create a wireless bridge connection between the main office and the outlying buildings, and formulated a proposal for Sancotrans. Sancotrans accepted and Sesami put the plan in motion. Within no time the wireless connection was created and employees at the far end of the company site could now access business data, internet, and email, as well as view the security camera at the far site entrance. Creating this bridge connection instantly saved several employees time they would have normally spent going to the main office to get needed information. This time savings equates to better business efficiency, and a savings of money in not having to pay employees for going back and forth from the main office several times during the day.

"FIRST WI-FI CAMPUS in the MEDICAL FIELD"

The Project was conducted at Dr.Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical Sciences & Research Foundation to make a hotspot in that Campus area for providing wireless internet & intranet in a radius of 1km Campus Area. This was one of a sucessful installation of outdoor hotspot in a Medical college. The project also involved Sesami High Power Outdoor AP SL-1000HS & SL-4012HS.

The Wi-Fi network has been established at Dr.Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical Sciences & Research Foundation, by M/S Sesami Solutions. The Entire college building is covered with Wi-Fi network. The signal strength and connectivity are tested at the medical college. It was found that, the connectivity is established at all the floor and departments / labs / halls covering entire building of the medical college. The signal strength is found to be good and satisfactory. The college can be claimed as FIRST WI-Fi CAMPUS in the MEDICAL FIELD.

"2.4Ghz Point To Point – 38Kms By Air Distance"

The Internet service provider (kakinada) was facing 2.4Ghz interference problem, most of people was using 2.4Ghz wireless link in that area , so sesami was used high power outdoor bridge – SL5TW, also established Point to Point wireless connectivity in a range of 38kms by air distance , now this wireless link at working more then one year – without any interruption.

"Campus Wi-Fi - Vignan's Engineering College"

Vignan Educational Institutions has made its Vadlamudi Campus, 18 k.m. from here, Wi-Fi enabled, the popular term for a high-frequency wireless local area network (WLAN).This facility comes with an 8 mbps internet connection to help students and faculty log into various sites for educational purposes and download data or upload information.

The campus has two engineering colleges, Vignan's Engineering College and Vignan's Lara Institute of Science and Technology, a pharmacy college and residential Intermediate College and students of all these colleges can make use of the facility.according to Executive Director of Vignan Educational InstitutionsPathuri Koteswara Rao at a press conference here on Tuesday

This would provide the students with the best possible education and continuously extend the students' reach. It allows the users to move around and provides easy connection to internet and intranet thus not limiting students to their computer laboratories, where engineering college has 150 connections. The technology brings a wide gamut of devices like laptops, desktops, mobile phones into a single network, he said

"it was the responsibility of the institutions to provide latest and advanced technologies like Wireless network solutions to provide the students with high speed internet and intranet"
